In 2024, Mikkelsen Architects transformed a listed boiler house into Dansehallerne, a striking contemporary dance centre. Paying homage to its industrial past, the building features a central 'box' housing the stage, back-stage, and foyer areas. Five immense, sound-insulating pivot doors clad in textured aluminium move gracefully on the FritsJurgens System M+ – the perfect choice for this world-class dance studio.
The central box, clad in raw aluminium, not only hints at the building's industrial past but also features an oscillating surface inspired by the drape of a stage curtain.
The perforated finish has been combined with acoustically absorbent mineral wool or glass panels, a fantastic detail that creates transparency in some areas.
Continuing this design the 5 pivoting doors stand at a whopping 4m in height. Each weigh between 170 and 200kg yet open and close with ease enabling fluid transition between the foyer area and the performance space.
The premium features of the FritsJurgens System M+ have been combined with a magnetic seal to ensure precision closure, further enhancing the acoustic performance of the hall.
