Whether you’re looking to add a gothic-inspired doorway to a period property or a more minimal silhouette to a modern interior, our bespoke arched steel doors will perfectly reflect the characteristics of a property. However, due to the nature of an arched curve, it can be problematic to achieve an even, seamless end result. To avoid costly onsite errors that may result in the archway having to be rebuilt, our Technical Lead, Andy advises the use of a timber template.
‘Our customers have found that the best answer is to have an accurate template of the curve made to the same size as the proposed door. Using the template the builder can ensure the shape and transition from curve to straight is correct.‘
This timber, machine-cut template can be ordered on request to the same size as the door. This is then shipped directly to site where the arch of the opening can then be formed with the template to hand.

The template also enables the builder to form a consistent 4-5mm larger opening. This gap will later be the packing allowance described in our guide on how to measure for a steel door.
In summary, requesting a timber template may at first seem like an avoidable expense but the risk of not accurately measuring an arched opening to the tightest of tolerances will inevitably lead to costly adjustments or the need for a completely new set of doors.
